2010 VEGAS TO RENO: Making The Pass On Open Camp (Wordpress / Joomla / Drupal)

Written by  Fidel Gonzales
It seems as if every time an industry convention or some business mixer emerges, my calendar shuns the event and any hope of mixing it up with forum friends and community colleagues. And when it comes to this year's inaugural Open Camp, which takes place this August 27-29 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Addison, Texas, there is no exception, as it conflicts with one of my favorite stateside desert off-road races, the 2010 Best In The Desert (BITD) Vegas To Reno on August 19-21.

What I'm digging about the entire Open Camp concept is that it combines the entire open source blogging software community. The event is a fusion of open source content management system software and combines the three favorites: Wordpress, Joomla and Drupal. Previously, Open Camp existed as Word Camp and was dedicated to Wordpress.

As for the event, there is no real conflict, but considering the proximity of the BITD Vegas To Reno to the Open Camp expo, there is just not enough time to distribute the photos and editorial necessary to complete all deadline orientated obligations. Furthermore, while I enjoy flying, I prefer to drive, as it allows me the opportunity to explore, and the trip to Texas requires a minimum of two weeks for me to make the jaunt, as I have a list of places that I have planned to pay visit to. Some are family related. Some are friend related. While others are merely adventure related and would include ample riding time (dirt bike) and off-road time (Jeep / 4X4) upon the trail. And that would obviously include some hiking and photography time. The only way around such scheduling would be if it were a paid gig and scheduling required flight.

Anyhow, all is not lost, as I will catch the live stream on the web and figured it worthwhile to share the event here.
